When I’m not working for my clients, my favourite thing to shoot is Ice Hockey. This sport is seriously awesome! The Fisherman has been playing for almost 20 years & I’ve barely missed a game in the 4 years we’ve been together. Late every Sunday night we head out to one of the few Sydney rinks & it’s often the highlight of my week.
The single most critical thing in sports photography is anticipating what will happen next. There’s nothing like nailing a shot of the puck hitting the net, or someone mid-air about to face plant into the ice.
The 2011 Ice Hockey season is only a couple of weeks away, so I thought I’d share a few of the highlights from 2010.
Note the size of the crowd…that’s considered a full house!
GOAL!!!!
It really amazes me sometimes they don’t get injured more often.
Good luck Kings!
Love Ice Hockey, coolest game on earth. Never get to see it in Australia :(
Hockey is such a rough but cool sport. These pics are awesome!
Such a rough and tumble game. You captured it well!
Great job catching the action, which can be really difficult to do for sports like hockey. I also love how the colors really pop against the white ice.
Hey hockey! Nice to see it down under :) Go Kings! (And go Calgary Flames!) heh
I’ve never been to a hockey game – I think I should go it looks fun!
We don’t get a lot of hockey here in Hawaii but it looks really cool. And cold.
fun! way to capture the action!
Great shots! I’m sure it’s not easy to capture ice hockey and you make it look easy!
That’s really cool. I love seeing personal stuff from photographers!
