Dacqmar & Darren | Wedding

People have been asking for months when I was going to get around to blogging this wedding, and the day has finally arrived.  You see, this one is a bit extra special for a few reasons. First of all, it was my first New Zealand wedding…Queenstown to be precise. Then, there’s the fact that Darren & Dacqmar are great friends of ours. But also, my hubby was the best man.

We spent a week at Shambala, a gorgeous house up on the hill overlooking all of Queenstown. Every morning we woke to see the tops of the mountains covered in more and more snow.

I love it when brides throw convention completely out of the window when choosing their details and accessories.

Amanda from Wedding Hair Queenstown did such an incredible job on Dax’s hair (and all the girls for that matter).

In the few days leading up to the wedding, Dax’s dad would tear up any time he thought about it. When he saw her for the first time, his eyes nearly popped out of his head, and overcome with emotion, he immediately turned around an walked out of the room to collect himself for a minute before coming back in.

After a lunch time reception we headed out into the cold for a few bridal party portraits, followed by a short hike higher up into the hills for some shots of the newlyweds.

Darren & Dax, I know I would have been there regardless, but I’m so honoured you chose me to capture your day with you.

Queenstown | New Zealand

Today, The Fisherman and I are jetting off to Queenstown in New Zealand to shoot a wedding and take a short break while we’re at it. I’m so excited. I love winter weddings regardless, but this one is going to be a bit extra special. The groom is actually one of The Fisherman’s oldest friends and he’s actually going to be the best man! No pressure right! There have been a few times at friend’s weddings where hubby has tagged along and carried my bags for me, but I’ve never had to actually photograph him properly.

The bridge and groom have rented out an incredible house overlooking all of Queenstown and I’m picturing a week full of snowboarding (extremely cautiously pre-wedding of course!), jet-boating, great food, great friends, late-night jacuzzies and chats by the fire. And the mountains. Oh the mountains!! Absolute bliss!!

Since no post is complete without a photo, here’s one from our last visit to Coronet Peak :)

Hubby and I visited way back in 2008 and spent two weeks traveling all over the South Island in a camper van.

Friday Flashback #8 | New Zealand

Lately I’ve been dreaming of a snowy winter adventure. It’s almost 2 years since this day on the top of Mount Hutt in New Zealand, but I can still feel it.

I love the way the mountains seem to go on forever and ever in the distance without any evidence of human touch. There’s still so much to be seen and explored, and this is only the beginning.

I would absolutely love to photograph a wedding in New Zealand! I’m offering a one-time only special to the first couple to book! So get in touch :)
